INTRODUCTION & HISTORY
Markham Primary is a forward thinking, innovative school with a one form entry and currently 196 pupils on roll. Pupils are aged between 3 and 11 and begin their learning journey with us in our Nursery provision. We are located in the village of Markham within Caerphilly County Borough. We serve the catchment area of Markham, Hollybush and Argoed and feed into Blackwood Comprehensive School. Our school is categorised as a ‘Green’ school by Welsh Government which means “a well run school with strong leadership, clear about priorities for improvement, a track record in raising standards and has the capacity to support other schools.”
Markham Primary was originally built in 1913 and although now a primary school, was originally an infant, junior and mixed senior school which catered for children between the ages of 5 and 15. The school building itself still boasts its original stone design.
There are currently 8 large classrooms, a ‘Learning Lounge’ which focuses on digital education and includes a fully equipped radio station, a central school hall, 3 small group teaching rooms, a kitchen and two offices. We are also fortunate to have extensive grounds which include an early years play area and garden, a forest schools area with allotment and chicken coop and a large, spacious yard. We also have access to Markham’s Leisure Centre and playing fields which we use for sports, PE lessons and school events.
